Great Job on Today's Ceremony

We would like to thank all parents, friends and family who shared in our special Remembrance Day Ceremony today.  Mr. Theobald's class and Ms Porcari's class did a wonderful job in honouring our heroes.  You did an excellent job in the readings and the tableau.  Karen summed it up very well today in our ceremony when she read:

  If, today, children could speak to world leaders, what would we tell them?

Our school community is unique and wonderful.  If you look around you right now, you will see beautiful faces from almost every part of the world.  In our school, we come from several different countries and speak many different languages.

Our classroom discussions remind us of the importance of Remembrance Day and why we should honour the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in 2 World Wars.  But we must also remember that “the war to end all wars” didn’t.  There are Canadian peacekeepers serving all over the world.  Why?  Because war still exits.  There is still the same suffering, the same loss, the same heartache.

And we don’t need to look too far to see it.  It may be etched in the face—or seared in the memory—of the child, or the teacher, or the parent sitting next to you right now.  Many of our school families are here because of war, or conflict, in their own countries.  They didn’t want to leave, but they knew they couldn’t stay.
